Caroline Laura Roudabush, daughter of Henrietta and Frederick Kersten was born Jan. 19, 1861 at Moscow, Ia., and died March 19, at Newton, Ia., at the age of 76 years and two months.
When she was five years old she came with her parents in a covered wagon drawn by an ox team from Moscow to Brooklyn, Ia., taking five days to make the eighty mile trip.
They settled southwest of Brooklyn in 1866. In September 21, 1887, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Roudabush of Brooklyn. To this union were born five children; Ernest F. Roudabush of Brooklyn, Mrs. Pearl F. Carpenter, deceased, Mrs. Ada Freese of Marion, William J. Roudabush of Washington, and Mrs. Grace Bachman of Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1925 and one daughter, Pearl in 1933.
She lived on the same farm south of Brooklyn where she went as a bride in 1887 until she moved to Brooklyn in 1916. The last several years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Grace Bachman at Newton.
When quite young she united with the Moravia church and taught a Sunday school class in that church for many years.
She had been in poor health for a number of years and the last four and one half months before her death she suffered intensely from the ravages of pernicious anemia.
Besides the children, 12 grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held from the Brooklyn Methodist church Sunday, March 21, with the Rev. R. L. L. Barnstable and the Rev. E. W. P. Holler officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Brooklyn.
At the request of the deceased, the grandsons Elwood, Milan and Harold Freese of Marion, Robert Roudabush and Warren Carpenter of Brooklyn, and Willis Bachman of Newton, served as pallbearers.
Those attending the servies wre Mrs. John Dunning, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Farrow, William Johnson, Ernest Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Churchill, Kenneth Lane, Guy Morelock, Mrs. John Wilding, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bachman, Gerald Bachman, Mrs. Frank Ratcliff, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beecroft of Oskaloosa, Ia.
