COLFAX – Funeral services for George W. Rose were conducted Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 9, from Christian church with Rev. C. J. Bukontz of the Baptist church officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. George Rinker, John Davis and R. F. Van Dyke, with Mrs. E. S. Calhoon accompanist.
Burial was made at the Colfax cemetery. Pallbearers were Jake Wymer, Vessie Rhone, Harry Cross, James Leonard and Robert and John Cross.
George W. Rose, son of Alexander and Sophia Rose was born at Russell, N.Y., Oct. 13, 1853, and died Saturday, Feb. 6, at the age of 83 years, three months and 24 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Jane Gates of Cassoppolis, Mich., in January 1874 and in 1879 the family moved to Iowa. To this union were born three children, one son and one daughter dying in infancy.
Alex Rose of Colfax, the other son and three grandchildren, Mrs. Josephine Berg and Earl Rose of Des Moines and George Rose of Des Moines survive. His wife preceded him in death a number of years ago.
On July 5, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie May Ward of Colfax and to this union were born two sons, Glenn F. Rose of Newton and Arthur F. Rose of Colfax, with whom he lived the last 14 years.
Besides his three sons he leaves one sister, Mrs. John Wilder of Grinnell, Ia., and two brothers, Frank and Will Rose of Rockwell City. His wife preceded him in death Jan. 23, 1931.
He united with the Baptist church at Oswalt in 1886.
