Plan Rites For Former Resident
Rites for Walter Richardson, 58, former Newton resident who died Oct. 29, in Long Beach, Cal., will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the Congregational church at Gilman. Dr. Floyd Allan Bash of Des Moines will be in charge.
Interment will be in the Gilman cemetery, beside the grave of his wife, who died in Newton, November 1924.

Walter Richardson, 58, former Newton resident, died in Long Beach, Calif., Oct. 29, and funeral services were held in Gilman, Ia., Nov. 5. Interment was in the Gilman cemetery beside his wife, who died in Newton in 1924.
Mr. Richardson’s death followed a heart attack, suffered the week previous. He had suffered a stroke last May, while still living in Newton, and at that time had gone to Des Moines to be with a daughter, Mrs. Willard Parmenter.
To California in August
In August he accompanied his daughter to California and decided to stay there for the winter with a son Ralph, who is enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The latter accompanied the body to Gilman.
Mr. Richardson will be remembered in Newton as operator of the billiard hall located in the old Lister Opera house building.
He was born Nov. 27, 1878, on a farm southwest of Gilman in Jasper County.
Married in 1905
On Dec. 27, 1905, he was united in marriage to Ethel Hammer at Albia, Ia., and shortly after their marriage they located in Gilman, where Mr. Richardson operated a restaurant.
They moved to Lenox in 1912, where Mr. Richardson ran a billiard hall and returned to Gilman in the fall of 1922. They came to Newton in March, 1923.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Ralph of Long Beach, and Harold of Newton, and two daughters, Mrs. Willard Parmenter of Des Moines, and Doris, 12, who makes her home with Mrs. Parmenter.
