MONROE – William Stanton Richards, son of G. W. and Asenith Richards, was born in Milford, Ill., April 22, 1862 and died October 22, at the age of 75 years and six months.
Mr. Richards had been in poor health for several months, and was moved to Newton the week before his death that he might receive the care and attention he needed in his illness. He failed to respond to any medical care, and death occurred late Friday evening.
When he was a boy his father, who was a physician, decided to leave the state of Illinois and so moved to Monroe, where for many years he was the family doctor in a great many homes. In Monroe, Mr. Richards grew to manhood, and save for a few years on a farm in Calhoun county, he lived here until his death.
He was preceded in death by both his father and mother and also by four sisters and one brother. Surviving his departure is one brother, John Richards, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at the Monroe funeral home on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24 at 1:30 by Rev. J. M. Carlson, of the Monroe Baptist church. Burial was in the Monroe cemetery.
Miss Margaret Warren played the piano and Roger Walters sang “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go,” “Abide With Me” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.”
Pall bearers were J. C. Huigen, A. L. Mateer, William Rozenburg, J. A. Dibel, George Ramage and John Fennema.
