Girl, 6, Dies at Oskaloosa
Lynnville Youngster Had Been Ill Only Three Days
LYNNVILLE – Marilyn Ratcliff, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Ratcliff, who would have celebrated her sixth birthday January 8, died at the Mahaska hospital in Oskaloosa Wednesday morning.
She had been ill only three days.
The youngster was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon and given a blood transfusion for pseudo-leukema, a blood disease.
The little girl leaves, beside her parents, five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Rosamond Johnson, near Peoria, Ia.; Walter Ratcliff, near New Sharon; and Betty, Roy and Gene at home.
Funeral services will be held from Friends church Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ermin Perisho of Lynnville and the Rev. Ed Thompson of Sully in charge. There will be short services at the home at 1 p.m.
Burial will be made in Lynnville cemetery.

LYNNVILLE – Marilyn Vera Ratcliff, daughter of Vern and Eva Ratcliff, was born Jan. 8, 1932, and died at the Mahaska hospital in Oskaloosa, Ia., on Dec. 22, 1937, at the age of 5 years, 11 months and 14 days.
She entered the public schools this fall and was regular in attendance until some two weeks ago.
She was a member of the primary Sunday school of the local Friends church and was an enthusiastic and regular attender.
She leaves her parents, Vern and Eva Ratcliff, three brothers and two sisters, Rosamond Johnson of Peoria, Walter Ratcliff of New Sharon, Jean, Betty and Roy Ratcliff at home, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bowen of Creston and Will Ratcliff of Des Moines, and three nephews, Robert Ratcliff and Junior and Billie Johnson, and two nieces, Frances and Delores Johnson.
Funeral services were held at the Friends church Friday afternoon, Dec. 24, at 1:30 with Rev. Ermin Perisho, local pastor and Rev. Ed Thompson of Sully in charge.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Charles Wagaman and Mrs. Will Allee, who sang “When He Cometh,” “That Sweet Story of Old” and “Have Thine Own Way.” Mrs. Harvey Gause was accompanist.
Floral pieces were arranged by Mrs. Roscoe Sparks, Mrs. Lloyd Dixon and Mrs. ohward Macy.
Burial was made in the Friends cemetery with Homer Randall of New Sharon, Lloyd Sparks, Merlyn Gertsma, Robert Brush, Dwight Davis and William Stewart as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were the following primary children of the Lynnville school: Louise Gause, Robert Wildman, Kenneth Van Gorp, Joan Shaffer, Norinne Shepherd, Jimmy Dearinger, Doris McMains, Leo Nikkel, Keith Klyn, Laurence Gertsma, Ivan Bradley and Virginia Long. Miss Maye Hagen, superintendent of the school, Miss Wilma Bennington, primary teacher and Mrs. Lou Macy, teacher of the primary class of the Sunday school accompanied the group.
Attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ratcliff and Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Ratcliff of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bowen and Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Bowen of Creston, Miss Wilma Ver Steegh of Oskaloosa, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Russell and John Hunter of Grinnell, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Bryan of Montezuma, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson of Peoria, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ratcliff, Mr. and Mrs. Will Randall and son, Homer, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Huff, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Griggs and son, Clifford, Mrs. Homer Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Busby, Mrs. Jessie Shesly, Junior Stevens, and Dr. Bartlett of New Sharon.
