Dr. Frank E. Forsythe, 86, of Newton died Saturday, Aug. 7, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton with the Rev. Steve Mathison-Bowie officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name to Hospice of Jasper County.

The son of Jacob "Jake" Forsythe and Inez Bains, he was born March 1, 1918, in Albia. He was a graduate of Albia Senior High School, Parsons College and the University of Iowa Medical School.

On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Dorothy Cummings in Newton. He later married Mildred Petersen on Nov. 28, 2001, in Newton. He was a general practitioner medical doctor in Newton.

Dr. Forsythe served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, Newton Kiwanis Club, VFW Newton Post No. 1655 and Isaak Walton League.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Petersen-Forsythe of Rockwell City; a son, Dr. Robert C. Forsythe of Dublin, Ohio; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Pamela Petersen of Lake Orion, Mich.; three step-daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and David Tudor of San Francisco, Calif., Barbara and Steven Gidel of Manson and Carla and Michael Holt of Iowa Falls; two grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marion Forsythe of Albia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a son, Dr. William Forsythe; a sister, Maude Forsythe; and two brothers, Carl and Willis Forsythe. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Monday, August 9, 2004

Frank E. Forsythe, the son of Jacob (Jake) and Inez Bains Forsythe, was born March 1, 1918 in Albia, Iowa. He grew up in Albia, graduating from the Albia High School. Frank went on to graduate from Parsons College. Frank served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, Frank went on to graduate from the University of Iowa Medical School.

On August 15, 1948, Frank was united in marriage with Dorothy Cummings in Newton, Iowa. Frank and Dorothy moved to Newton where they joined the medical practice with Dr. L. D. Norris. Dorothy would precede him in death. On November 28, 2001 Frank was united in marriage to Mildred Petersen. Frank was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton; the V.F.W. Newton Post #1655; the Isaac Walton League and Newton Kiwanis Club.

Death came to Frank at the age of 86, on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; a son, Dr. William Forsythe; a sister, Maude Forsythe; and two brothers, Carl Forsythe and Willis Forsythe.

Those left to honor the memory of Frank include his wife, Mildred Peterson-Forsythe of Rockwell City, Iowa; his son, Dr. Robert C. Forsythe of Dublin, Ohio; his step-son, Tim Petersen and his wife, Pamela of Lake Orion, Michigan; three step-daughters and their husbands: Pamela and David Tudor of San Francisco, California, Barbara and Steven Gidel of Manson, Iowa and Carla and Michael Holt of Iowa Falls, Iowa; his two grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; his brother, Marion Forsythe of Albia, Iowa; and many good neighbors and friends.
