Farmer Dies At Age of 73 Years
Ed Miller, 73, long-time resident of Jasper county, died today at his home five miles east of Newton, where he had lived for many years.
Mr. Miller’s death followed a several days illness of pneumonia.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Christian church in Kellogg Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Etta Miller; three sons, Otis and Basil Miller, both of Newton, and Vera Miller of east of Newton, and several grandchildren.

Conduct Rites For Ed Miller
Services For Jasper County Farmer Held in Kellogg Church
KELLOGG – Funeral services for Ed Miller, life long resident of Jasper county who died at his home Monday, May 17, after a few days illness of lobar pneumonia, were held at the Christian church here Wednesday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. A. H. Schultz, pastor of the Lutheran church at State Center was in charge of the rites.
Music included three vocal solos “The Old Rugged Cross” and “He Knows It All,” sung by Mrs. R. S. Dunn and “Saved by Grace” sung by Mrs. Burton Morris with accompaniment by Mrs. Mabel Veber.
Burr Hummel, Harry Balmer, Charles Richardson, Earl Trout, T. A. Nesmith and Dr. F. S. Hill served as pall bearers and the flowers were in charge of Mrs. Fred Lemke and Miss Inez Powers.
Burial was made in Our Silent City cemetery.
Born Near Kellogg
Edmon Miller, son of Joseph and Elizabeth Miller was born near Kellogg, Ia., Oct. 1, 1863. He attended the rural schools of the county and was united in marriage to Miss Etta Bice at Clarks, Neb., October 1885. Three sons, born to this union, all survive.
-They made their home in Nebraska for a year after their marriage then came to Iowa where he purchased the farm 3 miles west of Kellogg. Here he made his home until his death, with the exception of one year which he spent in Dexter and 13 years when he resided in Kellogg.
Was Church Member
He united with the Methodist Protestant church in early life, and served as a member of the board of supervisors for several years.
Surviving relatives include his widow; three sons, Otis and Basil of Newton and Vern of Kellogg; four brothers, John of Newton, Will of Pasadena, Calif., Fred of Des Moines, and Jeff of Dexter; five sisters, Mrs. Lydia Moberly of Pasadena, Calif.’ Mrs. Shaffer Owings of Altadena, Calif., Mrs. Lillian Berbower of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Maude Harrah and Mrs. Carrie Saum of Des Moines, and eight grandchildren.
