Matt Merritt, Former Newton Resident, Dies
Matt Merritt, 66, of Marshalltown, former Newton resident, died Sunday morning at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, following a several week’s illness. Death was attributed to gangrene.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from the Estel Funeral home. After the rites, the body will be taken to Marengo for burial.
Mr. Merritt moved from Newton to Marshalltown about 20 years ago.
Surviving relatives are his wife; a son, Theron Merritt, of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Celeste Jones of Batavia, Ia., and seven granddaughters.
