SULLY – Mrs. John Meppelink, former resident of Sully, died at the Home for the Aged in Pella Thursday afternoon, Aug. 19, at the age of 51 years, 7 months and 14 days. She had been ill for some time.
Funeral services were conducted in the home Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock and at the Second Christian Reformed church at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. Martin Monsma, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Black Oak cemetery.
Mrs. Meppelink was born in the Netherlands and came to this country with her parents at the age of 12 years. Her husband died more than 40 years ago, leaving her with seven children, the oldest 17 and the youngest a little more than two years old.
The children survive her as follows: Bert of Sully, Mrs. A. T. Van Zee of Oskaloosa, Gerrit of Sully, Herman of Leighton, John of Killduff, Henry of Taintor and Mrs. John Vander Hart of Peoria, and a foster daughter, Mrs. M. L. Van Houwelling of Pella.
She also leaves 23 grandchildren and (thr)ee great grandchildren; two brothers, Evert Van Engen of Santa Ana, Cal., and John Van Engen of Alamosa, Cal., and two half sisters, Mrs. William Slusher and Mrs. J. Stoddam, both of Adams, Neb.
Mrs. Meppelink came to a farm near Sully in 1907 from Leighton ___ and moved to a home in Sully in 1911. She went to the Home in Pella, Jan. 10, 1936, where she remained until her death.
