Bethel Woman Dies Wednesday
Mrs. Sibbie Mendenhall Succumbs to Long Illness; Rites Friday
BETHEL – Mrs. Sibbie Mendenhall, 85, died at her home northwest of Lynnville Wednesday about 4:30 o’clock following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Bethel church beginning at 2:30 o’clock.
Mrs. Mendenhall made her home with a son, Forest. Other surviving children are Mrs. Elsie Hayden of California, Mrs. Retta Anderson of Illinois and Morton Mendenhall of Newton.

LYNNVILLE – Funeral services for Mrs. Sibbie Mendenhall were held from the Bethel church Friday afternoon, Aug. 27, at 2:30 with Rev. Charles Plotts of Lynnville assisted by Rev. Sachse, pastor of the local church, in charge of the services.
“How Firm a Foundation,” “Wonderful Peace” and “We Have An Anchor” were sung by a quartette composed of Mrs. Lehrl Fritz, Velma Kooistra, Bernard Kooistra and Clifford Fritz. Mrs. Clifford Fritz accompanied.
Burial was in the Bethel cemetery with Earl Williams, Oral Bailey, Reuben Horn, Robert and Henry Ashby and Carl Dunnick serving as pallbearers.
Sibbie E. Mendenhall died Aug. 24, at her home near Lynnville, Iowa. At the time of her death she was 85 years old.
She was married to Miles R. Mendenhall who preceded her in death in 1901.
Born to her were the following children, Mrs. W. D. Anderson of Henderson, Ill., Mrs. U. G. Hayden of Fresno, Cal., Mortin Mendenhall of Newton, and F. D. Mendenhall of Lynnville.
Mrs. Mendenhall came to this community 41 years ago as one of the pioneer settlers. During the entire length of this time she has lived on her home place.
She was a birthright member of the Friends church but because of the close proximity of the Bethel Methodist church she transferred her membership to that church and remained in that fellowship until the time of her death.
