Mrs. McDermott Dies At 64 Years
Funeral Services Will Be Conducted Saturday at Sacred Heart Church
Mrs. John McDermott, 64, died Wednesday about 3:00 p.m. at her home, 506 South Third Avenue East, following a long illness.
Mrs. McDermott, an invalid for seven years, had suffered a series of strokes. Her death was reported due to complications.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Sacred Heart church Saturday at 10:00 a.m., by the Rev. T. J. McCann.
Mrs. Alice Catherine McDermott, daughter of Abraham and Catherine Myers, was born at Astoria, Ill., Aug. 4, 1872.
She had lived in Newton at different times during her life and she and her husband had returned to Newton from Armstrong, Ia., two months ago.
Surviving relatives are her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Katherine Dickinson of Mount Union, Pa., Mrs. Frances Johnson of Armstrong, Ia., and Mrs. Margaret Peterson and Mrs. Ellen Schmidt of Aurora, Ill.; and four sons, William of Superior, Ia., Paul and Donald of Newton, and John Jr., of Aurora, Ill.
Also surviving are a brother, William Myers of Chariton, and two sisters, Mrs. Etta Diehl and Mrs. Jessie Nichols of Tucson, Ariz., and twenty-one grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Agnes, who died April 12, 1935.

Hold Rites For Mrs. McDermott
Services For Newton Woman Conducted at Sacred Heart Church
Funeral services for Mrs. John McDermott, 64, were conducted from the Sacred Heart church Saturday at 10:00 a.m. by the Rev. T. J. McCann. Interment was at Armstrong, Ia.
Music for the rites included two solos, “Petition” by Simon Zwifelhofer and “Jesus Savior of My Soul” by Kathryn Phillips, and a duet, “Lord Have Mercy and Compassion” by Mr. Zwifelhofer and Miss Phillips. Hortense Wells presided at the organ.
Mrs. McDermott died Wednesday June 16, at her home, 505 South Third Avenue East, following a long illness.
Surviving relatives are four daughters, Mrs. Katherine Dickinson of Mount Union, Pa., Mrs. Frances Johnson of Armstrong, Ia., and Mrs. Margaret Peterson and Mrs. Ellen Schmidt of Aurora, Ill.; four sons, William of Superior, Ia., Paul and Donald of Newton and John Jr., of Aurora, Ill.; a brother, two sisters and twenty-one grandchildren.
