MONROE – Theodore H. Matheny, son of Rev. Elijah and Eleanor T. Matheny was born in Kanawa county, W. Va., July 15, 1851, and died June 13, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 28 days.
Mr. Matheny came with his parents in Illinois in 1853, and to Jasper county, Ia., April 11, 1864. He spent the remainder of his life in this county, with the exception of one year in Seward, Neb., and seven years in Gowrie, Ia.
He was united in marriage to Nancy M. Kingrey Jan. 4, 1874, and to this union was born four children. A daughter, Luetta preceded her parents in death June 28, 1901. Mrs. Matheny died April 5, 1930.
Surviving relatives include three children, William, Elijah and Samuel Matheny, all of Jasper county; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Arzilla Fudge of Marne, Ia.
He became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church early in life. He was buried in Dunreath cemetery, beside his wife.
