Mrs. Langmaid Dies Yesterday
Former Resident of County Dies at Marshalltown; to Hold Rites Here
Mrs. A. E. Langmaid, 84, of Marshalltown, resident of Jasper county for many years, died Tuesday at 4:20 p.m. at St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown. She was taken ill a few days ago with the flu and pneumonia developed.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Morgan Funeral Home by the Rev. Ross Mills of Green Mountain, former pastor of the Wittemberg Congregational church. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Born in New York
Mrs. Mary Hadley Langmaid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hadley, was born March 11, 1852, at Machias, N.Y., and was the last surviving member of a family of seven children.
Her father died when she was 16 years of age and when she was 21 she came to Jasper county, and taught in the rural schools.
She was married at Newton in March 1875, to A. E. Langmaid, and to this union six children were born, two of whom died in infancy.
Farmed in County
The couple farmed in the Wittemberg and the Oak Ridge neighborhoods near Newton until 1927, when they moved to Marshalltown. Mr. Langmaid’s death occurred there June 18, 1928.
Mrs. Langmaid was a member of the Wittemberg Congregational church and The Newton Daily News’ Three Quarter Century club. She is a former member of the Wittemberg Grange.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mrs. J. F. Mackerman of Newton and Mrs. Clark DeBolt of Marshalltown; two sons, W. B. Langmaid and J. G. Langmaid of Newton, and fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The daughter, Mrs. DeBolt, is ill at Marshalltown and will probably not be able to come for the services.

Hold Rites for Mrs. Langmaid
Services For Former Jasper County Resident held in Newton Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. A. E. Langmaid, 84, former Jasper County resident who died Tuesday in Marshalltown, were conducted from the Morgan Funeral Home in Newton Friday at 2 p.m.
Rev. Rose Mills of Green Mountain, former pastor of the Wittemberg Congregational church, delivered the funeral sermon and Rev. W. Clark Williams, pastor of the Wittemberg church, offered prayer.
Music was furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Williams, who sang two duet numbers, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Mrs. Williams played the accompaniment.
Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Roy Mackerman, Jay Mackerman, Daniel Mackerman, Donald Mackerman, Don Langmaid and Darrell DeBolt, Mrs. Harry Cutler and Mrs. E. E. Hesson were in charge of the flowers.
Mrs. Langmaid, native of New York state, lived in Jasper county for over 50 years, moving to Marshalltown in 1927.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Mrs. J. F. Mackerman of Newton and Mrs. Clark DeBolt of Marshalltown; two sons, W. B. Langmaid and J. G. Langmaid of Newton; fourteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
