Mrs. Kuesel, 31, Dies Wednesday
Young Newton Matron Dies Following Long Illness of Heart Disease
Mrs. John Kuesel, 31, resident of Newton for 11 years, died Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. at her apartment in the Miller hotel.
Mrs. Kuesel’s death followed a four-year-illness of heart disease, which was aggravated at the time of her death by a day’s illness of la grippe.
Funeral Rites
Funeral services will be conducted from the Morgan funeral home Saturday at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary, of which Mrs. Kuesel was a member, will attend the services in a body, meeting at the post office at 1:30 p.m.
Ruth Virginia Berry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berry, was born at Atlantic, Ia., June 18, 1906.
Marriage
She was united in marriage to John Kuesel March 14, 1923, at Atlantic and the couple lived at Massena, Ia., until coming to Newton 11 years ago. Mr. Kuesel has been employed at the Maytag factory during his residence here.
Mrs. Kuesel was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was active in two branches of the church, the 4-0 Sunday school class and the Hartsell division of the Ladies Aid society.
Survivors
Surviving are her husband; one son, Jack, 13; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berry of Belle Plaine, but formerly of Newton; one sister, Mrs. Jess Dougherty of Newton, and one brother, Ralph Berry of Owego, N.Y.
The mother was called here Wednesday morning and the father arrived Wednesday night. The brother is expected Friday morning.

Conduct Rites For Mrs. Kuesel
Funeral services for Mrs. John Kuesel, 31, were conducted from the Morgan funeral home Saturday at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Earnest L. Earley, who sang, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “His Will Be Done”. Their daughter, Mrs. Henry E. Efnor, played the accompaniment.
Pallbearers
Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery, with members of Newton Post No. 111, American Legion, serving as pall bearers. They were Mac Edge, Adrian Sapp, Thomas Thorson, Ralph Gardner, Emery Moore and Dr. P. L. Stow.
The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Otto Vaughn. Mrs. Henry Lust and Mrs. David Roberts.
The Legion Auxiliary, the 4-0 class of the Methodist Episcopal church, and the Boy Scout troop, of which Mrs. Kuesel’s son is a member, attended the services as separate groups.

Those attending the rites from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berry of Belle Plaine; Ralph Berry of Owego, N.Y.; Mrs. William Kuesel and daughter, Elda, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Casteel, Frank Kuesel, Leona Maas, Harold Maas, Mrs. Bess Harris, Mrs. Ray Shields, Mrs. Howard Fletcher and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Westphal, all of Massena, Ia.;
Also, Mrs. Elmer Vincent, Ross and Kenneth, and Mrs. Clinton Fox and son, Vincent, of Sioux City; Ralph Bragg, Mrs. and Mrs. Donald Bragg and Mrs. Wilma Harris of Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Clair Odem of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Raver of Grinnell; Mrs. William Morrison and Clair of Atlantic and Mrs. H. P. Cox and John Dougherty of Massena.
Died Wednesday
Mrs. Kuesel died Wednesday afternoon at her apartment in the Miller hotel, following a lingering illness of heart disease.
She was born at Atlantic, Ia., June 18, 1905, and was married to John Kuesel March 14, 1923. The couple lived at Massena, Ia., until moving to Newton 11 years ago.
Mrs. Kuesel was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, the 4-0 Sunday school class, and the Ladies Aid society. She was also a member of the Legion auxiliary.
Surviving relatives are her husband; one son, Jack, 13; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berry of Belle Plaine; one sister, Mrs. Jess Dougherty of Newton, and one brother, Ralph Berry of Owego, N.Y.
