Influenza Brings Death to Son of Newton Couple
Alan Duane Kirkpatrick, 7-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kirkpatrick, 424 First Street North, died today at 2:30 a.m. at his home, following an illness of influenza and influenzal pneumonia. He had been ill since Jan. 2.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Toland Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church. E. L. Earley will sing.
Members of the Gang and the 4-0 classes of the Methodist Episcopal Church are asked to attend the rites as individual groups.
The baby is survived by his parents; three sisters, Mary Lou, Margaret and LaVerna Jean; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Reynolds of Des Moines, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kirkpatrick of Newton.

Funeral Rites Conducted for Alan Kirkpatrick
Funeral services for Alan Duane Kirkpatrick, 7 months old, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kirkpatrick, were conducted from the Toland Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Dr. Logan took as his sermon text Job 1:21 – “The Lord gave and The Loard taketh away, blessed be the Lord.” Music was furnished by E. L. Earley, who sang “Precious Jewels” and “Gathering Buds,” accompanied by Mrs. H. E. Efnor.
Interment was in Memorial Park. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. V. E. Grant and Mrs. B. A. Jensen.
The baby died Monday morning following a 10-day illness from influenza and influenzal pneumonia.
Surviving relatives are his parents; three sisters, Mary Lou, Margaret and La Verna Jean; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Reynolds of Des Moines and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kirkpatrick of Newton.
