Baxter Resident Dies at 72 Years
Mrs. Isabelle Johnston Dies Of Pneumonia at Marshalltown Hospital.
BAXTER – Mrs. Isabelle Galloway Johnston, 72, of Baxter, resident of this community for over half a century, died Tuesday at 5:45 a.m. at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown.
Mrs. Johnston was taken ill with the flu the day after Christmas and pneumonia developed resulting in her death.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Scotland Jan. 29, 1884, and was married there to Robert Johnston. They came to the United States about 50 years ago and spent the remainder of their life farming one and one-half miles west of Baxter. Mr. Johnston’s death occurred May 20, 1932.
Surviving relatives are five sons, John of west of Baxter, James and Andrew of near Collins, Norman, at the home place, and Thomas of Baxter; four daughters, Diana, at home, Mrs. Alva Rose and Mrs. Robias Miller of Baxter and Mrs. Elmer Jonia of near Marshalltown; two sisters, Mrs. Will Allen of west of Baxter, and one brother, Arch Galloway of LeRoy, Minn.
No funeral arrangements have been announced.

BAXTER – Isabella Bonella Galloway was born in Fifeshire, Scotland, Jan. 29, 1864 and died at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, Ia., Jan. 19, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 21 days.
She was married to Robert Johnston June 12, 1884 at the home of her parents in West Saline, Scotland and they came to America in 1885 and settled near Baxter, Ia. In that vicinity they continued to reside through nearly 50 years of married life, which was terminated by the death of Mr. Johnston in 1932.
Mrs. Johnston had been in failing health for the past five years and a little less than a month ago she contracted influenza which later developed in pneumonia, the latter being the cause of her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnston became the parents of nine children, all of whom survive. They are, Isabel, John, Mrs. Janet Rose, Mrs. Robina Miller, Norman and Thomas, all of Baxter, Mrs. Mary Jontz of Marshalltown, Andrew and James of Collins.
She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Allen and Mrs. Janet Allen of Baxter, one brother Arch Galloway of LeRoy, Minn., 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 o’clock Friday afternoon, Jan. 22 from the Congregational Community church by the Rev. B. W. Northrop. Burial was made in Restland cemetery.
Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. Leon Cammack and Mrs. A. J. Dodd, who sang “In the Garden,” “No Night There,” and “Abide With Me.” Mrs. E. J. Goodwin played the accompaniment.
Pallbearers were six nephews, J. Y. Allen, James Allen, Johnnie Allen, Archie Allen, William Allen and James Galloway.
