Baxter Woman, 61, Dies in Missouri
Mrs. Thomas J. Jeffers, 61, Dies Following Long Illness
BAXTER – Mrs. Thomas J. Jeffers, 61, of near Baxter, died Monday at Eldorado Springs, Mo., where she had been receiving treatment for several months for a malignant disease.
Her body arrived in Baxter Tuesday night, where funeral arrangements are being made.
Lillie Blanch Stier was born near ___ Aug. 6, 1875, the daughter of John and Polly Stier.
She was united in marriage to Thomas J. Jeffers at Greencastle, Nov. 11, 1894, and spent the first year of their married life near Greencastle.
They then lived in Newton for five years and since then lived in and near Baxter and in 1909, they located on the present farm two miles southwest Baxter.
Surviving relatives include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. O. L. Cochran of Newton, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

BAXTER – Lillie Blanch Stier, daughter of John and Polly Emery Stier, was born in Clear Creek township, Jasper county, Iowa, on August 6, 1875.
Her parents coming from the east were among the pioneers, in this section of the state.
The subject of this sketch grew to womanhood at the farm home where she was born, and on Nov. 11, 1894, was married to Thomas James Jeffers, at Greencastle, Ia., where the newly wedded couple made their home for the first few years of their married life. Later they moved to Nebraska where they remained for five years and upon returning to Jasper county settled on a farm about one and one-half miles south west of Baxter which continued to be their home. Mrs. Jeffers death occurred there April 26 at the age of 61 years, eight months and 20 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeffers became the parents of one daughter, who is Mrs. Zella Jeffers Cochran, of Newton, Ia., together with the husband survives.
Other surviving relatives are two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Densmore, and Mrs. Ellen Craddock of Oakland, Calif., two brothers, Amos Stier of Rhodes, Ia., and Albert Stier of Collins, Ia.; five granddaughters, two grandsons and one great granddaughter and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Jeffers became a member of the Methodist church in her early girlhood.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon, April 29, at 2:30 o’clock at the Congregational church by Rev. B. W. Northrop, pastor of the church.
Music was furnished by Esther Breer, Margie Stinson, Ione VanCise, and Katherine Raridon, who sang “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” “Beckoning Hands” and “Safe in the Arm of Jesus.” Mrs. E. J. Goodwin was the accompanist.
Mrs. Boyd was assisted with the flowers by Mrs. Donald Young and Mrs. Alden Berry.
Burial was at Restland cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: John Hawthorne, Will Saak, Frank Sego, Joe Cross, John Stinson and Ed Henderson.
