Ira Pioneer Dies in Dakota
IRA – Joseph A. Jeffries, one of the founders of the first store in Ira when it was erected with the coming of the Chicago Great Western railroad in the 1880’s, died at his home in Casselton, N.D., on Dec. 16, it was learned here recently.
Mr. Jeffries was the son of Salem Jeffries who settled in this vicinity at an early date. The father and son erected the first store here when Ira was made a stop on the Great Western line.
Mr. Jeffries was born April 27, 1861 in Independence township and lived here for many years.
