Jasper County Teacher Dies
Hazel Hoffmire, 43, Dies at University Hospital in Iowa City
LYNNVILLE – Miss Hazel Hoffmire, 43, Jasper county teacher, died Monday evening at the University hospital in Iowa City, following a four-month illness. She was taken to Iowa City Friday.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Friends church Thursday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. George Wood, pastor. Interment will be at Union Mills, Ia.
Born Near Delta
Miss Hoffmire was born in Keokuk county near Delta, Ia., Dec. 6, 1893, and moved with her parents to New Sharon, Ia., when she was seven years of age. Her father, Charles R. Hoffmire, preceded her in death in 1900.
She was graduated from the New Sharon high school in 1913 and from Drake University in 1916.
Lynnville Teacher
Miss Hoffmire taught in the Lynnville schools for seven years and in the rural schools of Mahaska, Poweshiek, Monroe and Jasper counties for eleven years. She was teaching in Jasper county when she was taken ill.
She was a member of the Rebekah lodge of Lynnville and a former member of the Eastern Star.
Surviving relatives include her mother, Mrs. Cynthia Shock of Lynnville; two uncles, two aunts and several cousins.

LYNNVILLE – Funeral services for Miss Hazel Hoffmire were conducted from the Friends church Thursday afternoon, Feb. 25, at 1:30 o’clock. Rev. George Wood, pastor, had charge of the services.
“In The Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “Sometime We’ll Understand” were sung by Mrs. Charles Wagaman and Mrs. Will Allee with Mrs. Harvey Gause as accompanist.
Flowers were arranged by Mrs. Will Jones and Mrs. Cleon Bartow.
Short services were held at the Union Mills cemetery where burial was made.
Hazel Hoffmire, daughter of Charles R. and Cynthia Hoffmire was born Dec. 6, 1893 near Delta, Ia., living on a farm with her parents until she was seven years old. After the death of her father, June 16, 1900 she moved to New Sharon and from there to Lynnville where she continued to reside until her death.
Following an illness of four months, she was taken to Iowa City, Friday, Feb. 19, and died in University hospital, Monday evening, Feb. 22, while undergoing a blood transfusion.
She attended high school at New Sharon graduating in 1913. She was graduated from Drake University in 1916.
Miss Hoffmire taught in the Lynnville school for seven years and in the rural schools of Mahaska, Poweshiek, Monroe and Jasper counties for eleven years. She was teaching in Jasper county when she was taken ill in November.
She was a member of the Lynnville Rebekah and Eastern Star lodges. She united with the Church of Christ of New Sharon at the age of fifteen and continued a faithful member until her death.
She had been in failing health for two years but her condition was not considered serious until last November.
She leaves her mother, Mrs. Cynthia Shock, two aunts, two uncles and six cousins. All were present but one cousin who resides in Texas.
The pupils of Richland No. 2 school attended the services in a group. Miss Hoffmire had been teacher in that school for the past two years.
