Mrs. M. D. Horn Dies at 56 Years
Newton Woman Dies Monday Afternoon Following Prolonged Illness
Mrs. M. D. Horn, 56, invalid for the past five years, died Monday at 3:20 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Farland, 1204 First Avenue East.
Mrs. Horn had been cared for in the home of her daughter since last August.
Mrs. Horn, who was Effie Mae Holdsworth before her marriage, was born June 12, 1880, on a farm near Lynnville. She was the daughter of William and Emma Holdsworth.
She was united in marriage to M. D. Horn Nov. 28, 1896, and they made their home on a farm near Lynnville during the early part of their married life. They moved to Newton about 15 years ago, where Mr. Horn was formerly employed in the grocery departmnt of the A. M. Hough and Sons store.
Nine children were born to this union, all of whom survive.
Mrs. Horn was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Newton and of the J.O.C. Sunday school class.
Surviving relatives are her husband, M. D. Horn of Hammond, Ind.; the children, Mrs. Hazel Farland, Odessa Horn, Mrs. Gladys Myers, Mrs. Dorothy Willits and Mrs. Maxine Altemeier of Newton; Mrs. Myrtle Van Veldt, Mrs. Winifred Langmaid and William Horn of Hammond, Ind., and Mrs. Mildred Richardson of Des Moines.
Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Emma Holdsworth of Sully; a brother, Oscar Holdsworth, and a sister, Mrs. Sam Vanden Berg, also of Sully, and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. from the Methodist Episcopal church by Dr. Leslie B. Logan, pastor of the church. Interment will be at Lynnville.
Members of the J.O.C. class have been asked to meet at the church to attend the rites in a body.

Conduct Rites For Mrs. Horn
Services Held in Newton Wednesday; Interment in Lynnville Cemetery
Funeral services for Mrs. M. D. Horn, 56, were conducted from the Methodist Episcopal church Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. by the pastor, Dr. Leslie B. Logan.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Leroy Davis and Earnest L. Earley, soloists, and Lois Hundling, organist.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Lynnville, with the following serving as pallbearers: Hollis Horn, Harold Farland, Everett Altemeier, S. T. Willits, Wayne Richardson and Fred E. Meyer.
Born at Lynnville
Effie Mae Holdsworth, daughter of William H. and Emma Holdsworth, was born at Lynnville June 12, 1880, and died March 22, at the age of 56 years. Her father preceded her in death in January 1914.
She was united in marriage to M. D. Horn on Nov. 28, 1896, and the couple lived on a farm near Lynnville, until moving to Newton 15 years ago. Nine children, born to this union, all survive.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Newton and the J.O.C. Sunday school class.

Surviving relatives are her husband, M. D. Horn; the children, Mrs. Hazel Farland, Odessa Horn, Mrs. Gladys Meyer, Mrs. Dorothy Willits and Mrs. Maxine Altemeier all of Newton; Mrs. Mildred Richardson of Des Moines and Mrs. Winifred Langmaid, Mrs. Myrtle Van Veld and William Horn, all of Hammond, Ind.; her mother, Mrs. Emma Holdsworth, a brother, Oscar Holdsworth, and a sister, Mrs. Edna Vanden Berge, all of Sully. Eighteen grandchildren also survive.
Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Van Veld, were unable to come for the services because of the serious illness of Mr. Horn.
