Pneumonia Fatal To Mrs. Freeman
Newton Woman, 78, Dies Sunday; Funeral Rites Here Tuesday
Mrs. Carrie V. Freeman, 78, who made her home with a daughter, Mrs. J. C. Clemons northeast of Newton, died Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Skiff hospital, following a week’s illness of pneumonia.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., from the Murdoch funeral home by the Rev. G. B. Street, pastor of the Center Friends church.
After the local rites, the body will be taken to Smithshire, Ill., where final services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment will be in the Ellison cemetery near Smithshire.
Mrs. Freeman, who had lived with the Clemonses for the past 12 years, came with them to Jasper county five years ago to the farm near Newton. They moved here from near Eldora, in Hardin county.
Mrs. Freeman was born in Warren county, Ill., Jan. 12, 1859, and came to Iowa as the bride of Charles I. Freeman in about 1885.
They located at Des Moines, later moving to Indianola in 1902. Mr. Freeman preceded his wife in death four years ago.
Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of the Eldora chapter of D.A.R.
Surviving relatives include four children, Ina Freeman of Poplar, Mont., Mrs. B. E. Brancht and Harold B. Freeman of Des Moines, and Mrs. Clemons of Newton, and five grandchildren.
