COLFAX – Ed S. Forsyth, 69, prominent Colfax hardware dealer, died of a heart attack Sunday at 9:00 p.m. at his home.
Mr. Forsyth, who had been suffering with a heart ailment, died immediately after the attack. When it occurred, he had just returned upstairs after fixing the fire in the basement, and was out in the yard shutting off the water because of the cold weather.
Mr. Forsyth formerly lived near Lynnville, but had been a resident of Colfax for over 25 years.
He has been engaged in the hardware business in Colfax for a number of years and at the time of his death, his son, Gordan, was in business with him.
He was a member of the Methodist church at Colfax.
No funeral arrangements have been made, pending word from the son, Lowell.

COLFAX – Funeral services were held for Edward S. Forsyth Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 11 o’clock from the Methodist church with the pastor Rev. Russell Nye in charge, assisted by Rev. Eben Thomas and Rev. A. O. Wendelberg.
Edward S. Forsyth was born in Marion county, Ia., on Sept. 7, 1869. In 1881 he moved with his parents to Sully, Ia., and after completing the course of study in the schools there, attended Central college at Pella.
His first experience in merchandising was at Lynnville, where he drove a huckster wagon for a local merchant at the age of 18. His first store was a general merchandise business which he owned at Sully for a time. He later moved to Lynnville where he conducted a store. Later he went to New Providence where he was again engaged in the general merchandise business.
He came to Colfax in 1909 where he purchased the hardware business. He continued in this business until his death.
He took an active part in community affairs and will be greatly missed in the church where he was present regularly and took part in various offices.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, Clair of Duluth, Minn., Lowell of St. Louis, Mo., Leslie of Des Moines and Gordon and Paul of Colfax; eleven grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. DeWitt Jones of Long island, N.Y. and Mrs. F. G. Sherman of Oskaloosa.
Music was provided by Mrs. Earl Plummer, John Davis, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Van Dyke, with William Cubit at the organ.
Pall bearers were F. L. Evans, W. C. Pierce, Thomas Hughes, J. H. Hahn, H. A. Gunn, and B. F. Van Dyke.
Burial was at Lynnville.
