Mrs. Carpenter Dies At Hospital
Funeral Services Will be Conducted Here Tuesday Afternoon
Mrs. Wilson E. Carpenter, 65, 617 South Third Avenue West, died Sunday at 3:15 a.m. at the Skiff Memorial hospital, following a several weeks illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Morgan funeral home and interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery. Rev. Rosa Mills of Green Mountain, former pastor of the Wittemberg Congregational church will be in charge of the rites, assisted by Dr. E. A. Ramige, pastor of the First Congregational church of Newton.
The casket will not be opened after 1 p.m. on the day of the services, and friends wishing to see her are asked to call at the funeral home before that time.
Relatives Arrive
A daughter, Mrs. Robert Carter, and Mr. Carter of Chicago and a son, Edward Carpenter of Alliance, O., arrived in Newton Sunday. Another son, Frank Carpenter of Detroit, Mich., and two nieces, Misses Sarah and Helen Taylor of Chicago, are expected to arrive tonight.
Mrs. Frances A. Carpenter, daughter of Edwin A. and Minerva (Cushman) Taylor was born at North Bangor, N.Y., Sept. 18, 1872, one of a family of four children. She grew to womanhood there and received her education at Malone, N.Y.
She came to Iowa in 1895, to become the bride of Wilson E. Carpenter, the ceremony being performed at Des Moines on Oct. 8.
They located at Hutchinson, Kan., where they lived until coming to Newton in December 1905. Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive.
Church member
Mrs. Carpenter was a faithful member of the Congregational church and of the Christian worker society of the church. She was also of Newton Chapter No. 100, O.E.S., and was formerly affiliated with the Newton White Shrine.
Surviving relatives include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Carter of Chicago and Gertrude, at home; two sons, Edwin of Alliance, O., and Frank of Detroit, Mich. and a brother, William D. Taylor of Bangor, N.Y.
Also surviving re the two nieces, Sarah and Helen Taylor of Chicago, former Newton residents, and three grandchildren, Nancy Ann and Judith Kay Carpenter of Alliance, O., and William Frederick Carpenter of Detroit, Mich.

Carpenter Rites Held Tuesday
Funeral Services Conducted Here for Mrs. Wilson E. Carpenter
Funeral rites for Mrs. Wilson E. Carpenter, 65, resident of Newton for over 30 years, were conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Morgan funeral home.
Rev. Ross Mills of Green Mountain, former pastor of the Wittemburg Congregational church gave the funeral sermon and Dr. E. A. Ramige of the Newton First Congregational church offered prayer.
Kathryn Parker Matthews sang the hymn, “Abide With Me,” accompanied by Mrs. Guy Rinehart.
Interment was made in the Newton Union cemetery, with the following serving as pall bearer. V. H. Lear of Muscatine, Elmer Watkins, Dr. A. E. Sterling, Mac Edge, Karl Bond and Robert McLaughlin.
Mrs. Sterling, Mrs. Lear and Mrs. F. L. McNair were in charge of the floral arrangements.
From Out of Town
Relatives and friends attending the rites from out-of-town were Edwin O. Carpenter of Alliance, O., Frank Carpenter of Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Carter, Sarah and Helen Taylor, and Mabel Carter, all of Chicago, Mrs. E. J. Bard, Jack Norris and Mrs. Max Campbell of Des Moines, Mrs. V. H. Lear of Muscatine and Mrs. Lee Boyd of Webster City.
A group of members of the Christian Workers Society of the Congregational church attended the rites in a body, as did representatives of the Automatic Washer company office.
Mrs. Carpenter died Sunday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital following a several weeks illness.
Born in New York
A native of New York state, she came to Iowa in 1895 to wed Wilson E. Carpenter in Des Moines. The couple lived in Hutchinson, Kan., before locating in Newton in 1905.
Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Congregational church, the Christian workers society of the church, and Newton Chapter No. 100, O.E.S.
Surviving relatives include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Robert D. Carter of Chicago and Gertrude at home; two sons, Edwin of Alliance, O., and Frank of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, William D.
