Graveside Rites Held in Kellogg For Mrs. Bennett
KELLOGG – Graveside rites for Mrs. Sarah Bennett, 80, of Des Moines, former Kellogg resident, were held at Our Silent City cemetery Monday at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. R. T. White of the local M.E. church in charge.
Mrs. Bennett died Saturday evening at a Des Moines hospital, where she had been a patient for the last week. She had been in failing health for several months.
Six nephews, C. A. Simpson, Charles Davis and Victor Reynolds of Kellogg and Walter, John and Guy Simpson of Newton, acted as pallbearers.
Funeral services were conducted at Lilly’s funeral home in Des Moines Monday at 10:00 a.m. by Des Moines chapter No. 89, O.E.S., of which she had been a member for the past 25 years.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Ohio April 24, 1857, and came to Iowa with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. John Simpson. They located at Kellogg, where she made her home until moving to Des Moines 25 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. F. Bennett, several years ago.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Brethren church, Crocker Relief Corps, and Summit Park Ladies’ Aid society in Des Moines and of The Daily News’ Three Quarter Century club of Newton.
Surviving relatives include a son by a former marriage, Frank B. Wright of Ames, former superintendent of the Kellogg schools; a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Simmons of Des Moines’ two brothers, L. E. Simpson and George Simpson of Newton, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
