Edna May Roorda, 93, of Newton died Thursday, Sept. 16, at USA Healthcare in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Bible Truth Publishers and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Charles Elmer and Laura (Boyd) Bauer, she was born May 22, 1911, in Jasper County. She graduated from Mitchellville High School in 1929 and was a graduate of Capital City Commercial College in 1931. On Jan. 1, 1937, she married Glenn E. Roorda in Mitchellville. She was a homemaker and enjoyed helping others. She worshiped in Pleasant Hill and Sully.

Mrs. Roorda lived in Des Moines for 58 years and in Mitchellville for 25 years prior to moving to Newton in 1996, where she has been living at USA Healthcare of Newton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Joyce Roorda of Newton; a daughter, Jean Nicolet of Naperville, Ill.; five grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Friday, September 17, 2004
