Cecelia A. Stubbe, 69, of Newton died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Newton with the Rev. David Smiley officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery in Lakes Mills at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call today until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The daughter of Robert G. and Ruby V. (Springer) Doran, she was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Perry. She graduated from Perry High School in 1953 and from Iowa State Teachers College in 1957. She graduated from George Peabody College and did post graduate studies at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England, Oxford University in Oxford, England, and Drake University in Des Moines. On Aug. 10, 1957, she married Jean F. Stubbe. She taught English and drama and was the media specialist for the Newton school district for 20 years. She also taught in Peetz, Colo., and Des Moines. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Tools Chapel Questers, Skiff Auxiliary, Page Turners Book Club, Arts Connection, Jasper County Historical Society, P. Buckley Moss Society, Jasper County Retired Teachers Association and U.N.I. Alumni Association. In 2003, she received the Governor's Volunteerism Award.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly E. and Paul Phinney of Denton, Texas, Sarah C. Stubbe of Waterloo and Stephanie C. Williams of Newton; a son, Lowell R. Stubbe of Newton; a grandchild; and two sisters, Maryann Lund of Carrollton, Texas, and Karla Jo Benzing of Jonesboro, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Monday, September 20, 2004
