Evelyn Wilma Simons, 87, of Newton died Wednesday, Sept. 8, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in rural Sully. Burial will be at St. Andrews Cemetery in rural Sully. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today where the family will be available from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will accepted to St. Andrews Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Fred and Effie (Schnell) Castorf, she was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Sully. She attended Andreas County School and graduated in 1934 from Newton Senior High School. On Dec. 2, 1939, she married Glen D. Simons. She owned and operated an antique shop, The Memory Shoppe. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.

Mrs. Simons was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and was a church organist and Sunday school teacher. She also was president of the church council and a life member of the Jasper County Historical Society.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Bonnie Simons and David and Paulette Simons, all of Newton; a daughter, Glenda and Jay McGaha of Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Frances Schultz. ~
