Vernon E. Rasmussen, 91, of Newton died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Heritage Manor in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Hans and Christina Rasmussen, he was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Newton. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School. In July 1935, he married Lucille Hann in Davenport. He worked in the maintenance department at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He enjoyed spending time with his family and also enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Caroline Rasmussen and Roger and Penny Rasmussen, all of Newton, and Leslie and Maxine Rasmussen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Irv Carlson of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a granddaughter and an infant brother. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Thursday, September 30, 2004
