Morrell, 93, Of Lynnville Dies on Wed.
Graveside Rites for County Pioneer Will Be Held Friday
Lynnville – George Morrell, 93, of Lynnville, pioneer resident of Jasper county and a member of The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club, died Wednesday at the home of his nephew, Harvey Gause, in Lynnville.
Mr. Morrell had been very active despite his age, and he even chopped wood up until last fall to show his agility.
Graveside Rites
Graveside rites will be held at two o’clock Friday afternoon at the Woodland cemetery near Lynnville. Rev. Ed Thompson, pastor of the Lynnville Friends church, will officiate.
Pall bearers will be Fred Wagamon, Charles Wessel, Jones Harris, Bert Meredith, Hampton Cause and Bruce Gause. Mrs. Ozro Dearinger will sing “Abide With Me.” Serving on the flower committee will be Mrs. Betty Van Genderen and Miss Louise Gause.
Born in 1856
Mr. Morrell was the son of Jacob and Minerva Wilson Morrell. He was born Jan. 28, 1856, in Benton county, Ia. Before coming to Jasper county in 1868, he had lived in Scott county, Ia. He had spent most of his life on the farm, and was one of Lynnville’s eldest residents.
Of the five children in his family, only a sister of Mr. Morrell, Charity, now survives him. Other survivors include his nephew, Harvey Gause of Lynnville, and two nieces, Mrs. Harold Grow and Mrs. R. G. Eaton, both of Oklahoma City, Okla. He had never married.
