Clarence J. Miller, 65, of Newton died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lacona. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. A visitation will also be held Friday after 1 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home, 104 S. Washington St. in Lacona, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Herman J. and Eva M. (Metz) Miller, he was born May 26, 1939, in Lacona. He graduated from Lacona High School in 1958. He grew up and lived in Lacona until moving to Newton in 1979. On March 5, 1984, he married Rena Thompson in Newton. He worked in the factory for the Maytag Company for 30 years. He retired in 1988. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona and was a member of UAW Local 997 Retiree's Union. He enjoyed word puzzle books and liked cats.

Survivors include his wife; two step-sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Laura McCollum and John and Angie McCollum, all of Newton; two step-daughters and a son-in-law, Katie and Everett Whennen of Newton and Veda Lynn of Lincoln, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Karen Miller of Lacona, Darrel and Marlene Miller of Valpraiso and Wilfred and Joyce Miller of La Vista, Neb.; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Norvert Bauer, Rita and Keith Ripperger and Phyllis and Delbert Ripperger, all of Lacona, Marie and Bob Glass of New Virginia and Paulene and Roger Wadle of Kellogg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dolores Bauer.
