Betty Jean McDonald, 72, of Newton died Wednesday, Sept. 8, at USA Healthcare in Newton.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Newton Union Cemetery in the Veteran's Section. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call today after 1 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Berl and Luella Marie (Reynolds) Eilander, she was born April 11, 1942, in Newton. In January of 1963, she married Eugene McDonald. She was a homecare worker, assisting individuals with household chores. She also worked at Maytag, Winpower, Jasper County Care Facility and as a cook at several Newton restaurants. She enjoyed fishing and camping.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Kaye Eilander of Newton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Lois Eilander of Newton and Donald and Joyce Eilander of Albia; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barb and Chris Smith and Sherry and Gene Wharff, all of Newton, and Cinda Shaver of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson and a brother, Sylvester Eilander.
