KELLOGG -- Clair "Barney" Bahrenfuse, 83, of rural Kellogg died Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Bob Molsberry, pastor of the Grinnell Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Westfield Cemetery, south of Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kellogg Historical Museum, Pleasant View Church or Westfield Cemetery Association.

The son of Frank and Anna (Prosser) Bahrenfuse, he was born June 8, 1921, in Poweshiek County. He was raised in Poweshiek County and received his education in country schools near his home. He was employed as a farmhand and also delivered groceries to people's homes by motorcycle. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II with the 81st Wildcat Division in the South Pacific. Upon discharge he attended Cal-Aero Technical School in California, where he studied radio-engine mechanics. He returned to Iowa following his education. On Nov. 9, 1946, he married Doris Tough at the Pleasant View Church in rural Jasper County. The couple farmed in Jasper County, and for several years he was employed by Maytag. They moved to their current farm near Kellogg in the mid-1950s. He was a member of the Pleasant View Church.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Carol Ohn of Alden, Minn., and Robert "Barney" Bahrenfuse of Grinnell; one sister, Edith Lee of Riverton, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Raymond, Ralph and Harold.
