Margaret R. Young, 79, of Newton, formerly of Lynnville, died Thursday, Oct. 7, at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. A private family burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Deaf Mission in Omaha, Neb., and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of David Reese and Mabel Adel (Putman) Owens, she was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Valley Junction. She married William Seeley. He died in 1945. On Jan. 4, 1946, she married Marion "Buck" Young in Des Moines. She was an apartment manager for the Eddy and Elliott Apartments in Des Moines. She was a charter member of the Franklin Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines and later a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, needle work and quilting. She lived in Des Moines and Valley Junction for 55 years and in Lynnville for 15 years prior to moving to Newton in October 2003.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janet Seeley of Kissimmee, Fla., and Mark and Audrey Young of Clear Lake; five daughters and sons-in-law, Cathie and Jack Escorcia of Burlington, Margie and Fred Criswell of Newton, Betty and Kelly Bridges of Murdock, Neb., Debbie and Rory Schneiter of Johnston and Joellen and Paul Maurer of Libertyville, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Earlene Owens of West Des Moines and Tom and Naomi Oens of Guston, Ore.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary "Toots" and Bud Cavin of Albuquerque, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Luke Young; a grandson; and a sister, Naomi James.
