C. Lowell Woodruff, 78, of Newton died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Park Centre Care Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gerald D. McGee, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County or the Plainfield United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Charles and M. Blanche (Sheppard) Woodruff, he was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Monroe County. On June 17, 1946, he married Geraldine "Geri" Zinn in Plainfield. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved back to Newton in 1976. He worked for the United Telephone Company as an outside engineer and retired in 1983. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and talking with friends and neighbors. He was a member of Plainfield United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 472 in Plainfield.

Survivors include his wife; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Bentley.
