MONROE -- Lloyd L. Zickel, 98, of Monroe, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Monroe with the Rev. Eldon Pals and the Rev. Jack McCullough officiating. Burial will follow at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Visitation will be held from 3 until 8 p.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe, where the family will be available from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Lloyd L. Zickel Memorial Fund.

The son of Phillip and Daisy (Rhordanz) Zickel, he was born June 5, 1906, in rural Reasnor. He attended country school several miles outside of Reasnor. On Aug. 24, 1932, he married Ana E. Van Iperen in Unionville, Mo. Following their marriage, they moved to what became his lifelong home in Monroe. He farmed and worked for Whitted Implement in Monroe. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe, where he served as an usher for many years. Zickel also was a past member of the school board and was a member of the Monroe Masons organization.

Survivors include one daughter and a son-in-law, Shirley and Bob Hale; one son, Larry Zickel; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Catherine McCoy; and two sisters, Eulalia Kloostra and Lila Sallade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ana, and three brothers, Everett, Melvin and Clarence Zickel.
