Mildred Arlene Turner, 88, of Newton died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Community Heights Alliance Education Center, 1000 E. 12th St. S., with the Rev. Larry Spader officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name, to Community Heights Alliance Church or Hospice of Jasper County.

The daughter of Fred Oliver and Francis Bernice Hall-Billman, she was born Dec. 10, 1915, near Marietta. She was a graduate of Greenmountain High School. On Nov. 26, 1937, she married Lyle M. Turner in rural Marshalltown. She was a homemaker and a cook at Newton Maid Rite and Newton Country Club.

Mrs. Turner attended Community Heights Alliance Church. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Hawkeye Bowling Club for many years. She lived in Council Bluffs, Cedar Rapids and Chicago, Ill., prior to moving to Newton in 1945.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Judy Turner of Newton; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Barbara and Bob Gray, Glennys and Harold Ward and Carolyn Porter, all of Newton, and Suzanne and Adrian Nall of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Billman of Andover, Kan.; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Doyle Mikles of Grinnell; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Billman and Norma Christiansen; and three brothers-in-law, Wayne Eaton of Marshalltown, Darrell and Glenda Turner and Kenneth Turner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson; two sisters, Maurien Slycord and Doris Eaton; and a brother, Cecil Billman.
