AITKIN, Minn. - Ronald G. Trotter, 76, of Aitkin, Minn., formerly of Newton, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home in Walker, Minn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Aitkin United Methodist Church in Aitkin, Minn., with the Rev. Ruth Hograbe officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in Bennettville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin, Minn., and also one hour prior to the services at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion posts.

The son of Sam and Cecil Trotter, he was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Newton. On Feb. 2, 1946, he married Alice McWhirter in Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a supervisor for the Maytag Company. He and his wife moved to the Aitkin, Minn., area in 1963 and purchased a resort on Round Lake. He also worked for Montgomery Ward in Brainerd, Minn., until he retired in 1990. He was a member of the Garrison VFW, Brainerd American Legion Post and the Brainerd Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dale Howard of Aitkin, Minn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Debbie Trotter of Aitkin, Minn.; six grandchildren and their spouses; six great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Clarice Trotter of Newton, Terry and Sandy Trotter of Simi Valley, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Trotter of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack.
