COLFAX -- Helen Mardelle Reed, 83, of Colfax died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Hospital in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Jasper County Hospice or the Ronald McDonald House.

The daughter of Claude and Lena (Roush) McDaniel, she was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Monroe. On Jan. 14, 1939, she married Ray Reed. She worked for the Maytag Company for a short time, co-owned and helped run Reed's Greenhouse for 37 years. She enjoyed crafts, flowers and garage sales.

She is survived by her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Patty Reed and Keith and Nancy Reed; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ron Thompson; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews; and a sister-in-law, Darline McDaniel of Newton.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Joann; a sister, Claudena Treuse; two brothers, Lawrence and Marion McDaniel; and her parents.
