Helen Maxine Rankin, 90, of Newton died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Community Reformed Church in Newton with the Rev. Eric Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in her name, to Community Reformed Church or to Iowa Diabetes Foundation.

The daughter of Louis Lorraine and Sophia Maria Colyn-Caranahan, she was born Dec. 8, 1913, in rural Percy. She attended Yeager rural schools, south of Prairie City. On July 21, 1936, she married John Raymond Rankin in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Reformed Church in Newton, Reformed Church Women, 50-year member of the Easter Star Lodge No. 518 in Runnells and a member of Helping Hands Sewing Group.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Gloria Rankin of Colfax; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Louie Modilia and Dixie and Doug Dawson, all of Newton, and Virginia and Ronnie Myers of Baxter; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant grandson and a great-granddaughter.
