COLFAX -- Leslie Gerald Martin, 77, of 300 Kelly Street in Colfax, formerly of Newton, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Phil Butler, pastor of First Baptist Church in Colfax, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Vivian Paral Martin and Hazel Martin-Snook, he was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Newton. He attended Jasper County schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On June 30, 1960, he married Darlene Leona McDonald-Gragg in Moline, Ill. He worked for the Newton Foundry for 13 years and for T.R.S. Roofing of Iowa City and Newton. He was a member of Colfax First Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, fishing and stock cars. He also enjoyed putting photos in his photo albums.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Lois Gilkison of Colfax, Max and Joyce Gragg, Marvin and Liz Gragg and Mick and Donna Gragg, all of What Cheer; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Norman Willey of Rock Springs, Wyo.; a son-in-law, Michael Walker of Wyoming; 16 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Stam of Mount Ayr; and a sister, Roselyn Enderton of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Otto Gragg; a daughter, Peggy Walker; three sisters; and one brother.
