Elaine M. Knapp, 67, of Newton died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at Iowa City Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Community Heights Alliance Education Center in Newton with the Rev. Larry Walker, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the education center. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Ralph E. Newell and Emma Belle Herron, she was born May 15, 1937, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1956. On Aug. 5, 1956, she married Harold W. Knapp. She was a tax preparer for H & R Block. She enjoyed helping others and volunteered at school for her grandchildren. She was a member of Newton Moose Lodge.

Survivors include her husband, Harold "Wes" Knapp of Newton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa Holton, Deb Laffler and Connie and Mike Ertl, all of Newton; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Wendel Newell of Kansas and Clayton Newell of Newton; and a sister, Ina Walker of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
