Shirley M. Jones, 68, of Newton died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gene Bryant of Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the American Diabetes Association or to the Newton Dialysis Unit and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Glenn and Gladys (Stevens) Hamilton, she was born Dec. 15, 1935, in Des Moines. She was a graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. On Oct. 15, 1960, she married James L. Jones in Des Moines. She worked in the kitchen at Berg and also was a day care provider for 15 years. She collected angels and did scrap booking. She enjoyed the outdoors. She was an active member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Amy Jones of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Bernie Oskam of Newton; 10 grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim and Kathy Hamilton and Stan Hamilton, all of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.
