Albert D. "Skip" Henning, 64, of Newton died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at his home in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Albert C. and Minnie Viola (Redding) Henning, he was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Navy. On March 1, 1963, he married Ona L. Hoffmaster in LeGrand. He was a roofer and owned and operated Henning Roofing. He was a lifelong resident of Newton.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Darci Henning and James Neal, all of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Frankie Beck of San Diego, Calif., Kelly and Scott Penning of Newton and Roberta and Dave Oberhart of Savannah, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, including grandson Shawn Bayles of Kellogg who was raised by Albert and Ona; many great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Helen Henning of Cascade, Harold Henning of Newton, James and Mary Henning of Kellogg and Tommy Henning of Vermont; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bill Stafford and Chrystal and Rodney Walker, all of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Johnny Neal, five brothers and four sisters

Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 02, 2004 at the funeral home.

Interment: Immediately following the funeral service Tuesday, November 02, 2004 at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

Those left to honor Skip's memory are his wife, Ona; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Danny and Darci Henning of Newton and James Neal of Newton; his 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Frankie Beck of San Diego, California, Kelly and Scott Penning of Newton and Roberta and Dave Oberhart of Savannah Georgia; 12 grandchildren and his many great-grandchildren; 4 brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Helen Henning of Cascade, Iowa, Harold Henning of Newton, James and Mary Henning of Kellogg, Iowa and Tommy Henning of Vermont; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bill Stafford of Newton and Chrystal and Rodney Walker of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert C. and Minnie Viola (Redding) Henning; son, Johnny Neal; 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Skip served in the U. S. Navy.

He owned and operated Henning Roofing.

Skip loved to go camping, fishing and trapping. He also loved to pick on his kids and grandkids.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home
