ALTOONA -- John "Jack" Fry, 72, of Altoona, formerly of Newton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at Altoona Funeral Home in Altoona on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with burial following at Altoona Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Altoona Funeral Home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m.

The son of Herschel and Vera Fry, he was born Jan. 8, 1932. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received two purple hearts. He retired from John Deere. He was a member of Bondurant American Legion, King David Masonic Lodge in Altoona and a member of the Altoona Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Altoona; a son, Merlen Fry of Altoona; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marti and Harry Rosenberger of Newton and Brandi Leverich of Des Moines; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Geneva Pabst of South Carolina and Connie Cockerton of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Fry; sister, Carolee Stratton; and a grandson, Ben Leverich.
