LAMBS GROVE -- Thomas "Tom" Thayer Anderson, 41, of 120 Oakwood Drive, Lambs Grove, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton with the Rev. Michael Dack officiating. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

The family will greet friends during a lunch following the service at the church. Memorials will be accepted in his name to Hospice of Jasper County, Newton Congregational United Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.

The son of Arthur Swan Anderson and Barbara Louise (Thayer) Anderson, he was born Aug. 30, 1963, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1981 and attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He received a bachelor of science degree in business management in 1988 from Arizona State University. He was a real estate investor and loan officer and worked as finance and leasing manager for Wasatch Property in Phoenix, Ariz. He enjoyed swimming and was state champion in freestyle, receiving the Outstanding Newton Swimming Senior Award. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, golfing, all sports, music and was a drummer.

Mr. Anderson enjoyed helping others and liked construction work. He was a member of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a resident of Newton for 21 years and lived in Arizona for 20 years.

Survivors include his parents, Art and Barb Anderson of Lambs Grove; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Marcie (Hummer) Anderson of Omaha, Neb., James "Jim" and Cindy (O'Hare) Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Anderson of Peoria, Ariz.; four nieces and nephews; one grandnephew; two aunts, Mary Jayne Motlow of Lynchburg, Tenn., and Jean Wurtzel of Freeport, Ill.; three uncles and their wives, Henry and Jane Thayer of Elgin, Ill, Robert and Deloris Anderson of Freeport, Ill, and James and Pat Anderson of Davenport; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Henry J. Thayer and Ruth Thayer-Quay-Jones; his paternal grandparents, Thelma and Art Anderson; and three uncles, Keith Thayer and Art Wurtzel and J.D. Motlow Jr. ~
