Was Member of Eighth Air Force; Services At Methodist Church

Final rites for the body of Sergeant W. Kenneth Benson of Kellogg, who died while serving with the Eighth Air Force in Europe during World War II, will be held at two o'clock Friday afternoon at the Kellogg Methodist church.

Rev. W. W. Watson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Sgt. Benson's body is scheduled to arrive at 6:20 o'clock Wednesday morning in Newton by train. The casket will be taken to the Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home in Kellogg Wednesday evening and will remain there until noon Friday when it will be taken to the church.

Pall bearers for the services will be Claire Miller, Chester Mason, Simon Haunsberger, Ray Williamson, Max Verber and Jerry Deal. Mrs. Chester Mason and Mrs. Kenneth Iske will serve on the flower committee. Dick Hunt will be soloist at the rites.

Sgt. Benson was born Nov. 9, 1920, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Benson. He attended and graduated from the rural schools of the county. Before his enlistment March 11, 1944, he was employed at the One Minute Washer Co.in Kellogg.

He married Iona Krumm of Newburg May 29, 1943, in a ceremony at Bethany, Mo. One daughter, Peggy Lee Benson, was born to the union and with her mother survives.

The Air medal was presented to Sgt. Benson April 23, 1945, and Mrs. Benson received a posthumous Purple Heart medal.

Besides his widow and daughter, Sgt. Benson is survived by his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Callison and Mrs. Dwight Taylor of Kellogg and Mrs. George Thompson and Mrs. Clifford White of Newton; four brothers, Glenn, Donald, Merle and Louis, all of Kellogg and several nieces and nephews. ~ Special of The Daily News KELLOGG
