Obituary

Vearl S. "Bennie" Benskin, 80, of Iowa City died Thursday, Nov. 2, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City, with the Rev. George Mullen officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton. He was the son of Curtis W. and Lillie Mae Hutchinson Benskin and was born Feb. 12, 1920, in Wesley.

He was married to Lucille Mae Anderson in Benton County. He later married Dolores Groff March 1, 1964 in Coralville.

Mr. Benskin was a long-time Iowa City resident. He drove a truck for 60 years for several companies, including Briskey's Cabinet Co., Piester Derby, Vickers, Colonial Bread Co. and, most recently of Lewis Systems, Inc.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores; two sons, Curtis Benskin of Iowa City and Gary Lee White of North Liberty; two daughters, Linda M. Phillips of East Dubuque, Ill., and Debra Stevens of Des Moines; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Hattie White; and one brother, Arthur.
