Jesse Beard Died Here Monday
Jesse Lee Beard, 75, a resident of Colfax the past eight years, died suddenly Monday, Jan. 13 in his home at 206 West Broadway in this city. Death was believed to have been caused by a heart attack.
The son of Bion and Emma McKeever Beard, he was born at Mingo, April 1, 1893.
Mr. Beard farmed in the Mingo area before moving to Colfax in 1960.
He was married to Lillie May Good on August 17, 1913.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Alexander and Mrs. Lorene Conn, both of Colfax; five sons, Merle Beard of San Diego, Calif., Walter Beard and Leo Beard, both of Colfax, Robert Beard of Mingo and Francis Beard of Ankeny; twenty one grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willis Beard of Mingo, Roy Beard of Monroe and Andrew Beard of Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Calhoon of Ames.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, Jan. 16 at 1:30 in Walters Funeral Home at Colfax.
The Rev. Laurence Garrett, minister of the United Methodist Church of Colfax, will conduct the services.
Mrs. Darrold Hunter will be the soloist and Miss Eleanor Howell will be organist.
The bearers are Edward Conn, Paul Gannon, Oscar Franz, Francis Southern, Frank W. Evans and Harold Maxwell.
Mr. George Lind and Mrs. Ralph Williams will serve on the flower committee.
Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
