Oliver W. Darrock Dies February 2nd
Oliver Wendell Darrock, 59, lifelong resident of this city, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 2, 1972 at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Darrock, he was born August 23, 1912 at Colfax and was a 1930 graduate of Colfax High School.
He was married to Rosland E. Pentico March 11, 1944 at Prairie City.
Mr. Darrock, a World War II veteran, had served for a term on the Colfax City Council.
He was a member of the Baptist Church and the American Legion, both of Colfax, and the United Auto Workers, Local 997 of Newton. He had been employed as a coal miner for 11 years and at the Maytag Co. for 27 years before his retirement.
Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Linda Lee Darrock of Colfax; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Schmidt of Long Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a brother.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 1972 in Walters Funeral Home at Colfax.
The Rev. Charles Wilder, pastor of the Colfax Baptist Church, conducted the services.
Mrs. James Monroe was the organist.
The bearers were Robert Clark, Frank B. Evans, Robert Evans, William Evans, Gail Tilton and George Wall.
Honorary bearers were Donald Evans Sr., John Evans, William Hughes, Dave Owens, Arthur Roberts, Vern Warfield and Harold Williams.
Mrs. Harold Frey, Joyce Orcutt and Mrs. Dave Owens were in charge of the flowers.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
