Mrs. Nora Watt Died At Home Saturday
Nora Dales Watt was born in Newcomerstown, Ohio, on November 26, 1876, the daughter of William and Jenny Dales. She passed away at her farm home northeast of Colfax in the Sand Hill neighborhood last Saturday evening, December 14, 1968 at 5:45 p.m. She was 92 years and 18 days of age.
She came to Iowa with her family when she was about one year old. The family located their home east of Colfax. Mrs. Watt attended the schools at Colfax, the Newton Normal School and the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. For about six years she taught in the Rinehart School and the Warren Grove School, both located southeast of Colfax.
On December 25, 1901, she was united in marriage with Charles William Watt. The couple took up farming northeast of Colfax in the Sand Hill community. Mrs. Watt lived there for the 67 years of her married life. Two children were born to this couple: William Kenneth and Margaret.
Mrs. Watt was a member of the Sand Hill Grange, and a member of the Methodist Church in Colfax. She taught Sunday School classes for a number of years at Sand Hill. Her skill in the cultivation and culture of flowers was remarkable.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one son, William Kenneth, two sisters, and one son-in-law, Robert Lamson of Ames.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Margaret Lamson of Ames, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Walter Beals of Colfax, three sisters, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are: James Lamson of Des Moines, Charles Lamson of Evergreen, Colorado, Mrs. Mary Killebrew of Broomfield, Colorado, Mrs. Barbara Lightfoot of Ojai, California, Mrs. Jane Dougall of Newton, Miss Margaret Watt, living in St. Louis, Missouri and Pvt. William Kenneth Watt Jr., at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Mrs. Watt was bedfast during the closing years of life, but always remained alert and cheerful, an inspiration to family and friends. Her passing brings sorrow to so many.
Funeral services were held December 17th at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church of Colfax.
The Rev. Laurence Garrett, minister of the church, conducted the services.
Mrs. Frank B. Evans was the organist.
The bearers were: Walter Beals, Rene DeCamp, Herbert Dougall Jr., Herbert Dougall III, William Dunsbergen and James Lamson.
Mrs. William Dunsbergen and Mrs. Nellie Pink served on the flower committee.
Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, Iowa.
